Together, they offer visitors a perfect mix of history, art, and breathtaking scenery. Here's a day-long travel guide for exploring these two jewels of Udaipur!

Getting There

Udaipur has an airport (UDR) well-connected to major Indian cities. The City Palace is easily accessible by taxi or tuk-tuk. And it is better to visit from October to March when the weather is pleasant.

The Majestic City Palace

City Palace is an architectural marvel perched on the eastern banks of Pichola Lake. Built over several centuries by the Mewar dynasty, this palace complex is a unique blend of Mughal and Rajasthani architecture. Its grand courtyards, balconies, and corridors decorated with intricate mirror work, murals, and paintings make it a photographer's paradise.
What to See Inside
Mor Chowk: Known as the Peacock Courtyard, this part of the palace has stunning mosaics of peacocks made with glass and colored stones.
Sheesh Mahal: This "Mirror Palace" is a masterpiece of mirror work that reflects the grandeur of the era.
Zenana Mahal: Once the queen's quarters, it showcases royal paintings and artifacts.
Amar Vilas: The highest point of the palace, providing a panoramic view of Lake Pichola.
Entry Fees: Around ₹300-₹500 for adults, ₹200 for children.

Traditional Rajasthani Cuisine with a View

For a royal dining experience, visit the Palki Khana Café inside the palace grounds, or head to Ambrai Restaurant at Amet Haveli, just across the lake. Both options offer magnificent views of the palace and lake with delicious traditional Rajasthani dishes like dal bati churma and laal maas(Indian Meat Curry). You are expected to spend ₹500-₹800 per person.

A Serene Boat Ride on Pichola Lake

Visit Pichola Lake for a peaceful boat ride, the best way to take in the beauty of Udaipur. This artificial lake, built in the 14th century, is lined with palaces, temples, ghats, and hills.
